VCU to Face Akron in BracketBuster Rematch

Virginia Commonwealth (7-4, 15-5 CAA) will play Akron (15-6, 5-2 MAC) at the Siegel Center on Feb. 20 as part of ESPN’s eigth annual BracketBusters.

The teams met in the 2007-2008 BracketBusters, with VCU winning on the road 57-52. The Rams won the return game 73-69 last year.

VCU head coach Shaka Smart was an assistant at Akron under Keith Dambrot from 2003-06.

Akron currently is the MAC East Division co-leader along with Kent State. The game time is set for 4 pm and will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

CAA rivals Old Dominion, George Mason and William & Mary will also participate in this year’s event. The Monarch’s will travel to Northern Iowa while Mason will face College of Charleston in D.C. The Tribe will be on the road against MAAC power Iona.
